2024 has seen an extensive array of critical events in the areas of Privacy and Cybersecurity. These events have highlighted some of the shortcomings in the industry. Never before has the threat landscape for Cybersecurity and Privacy been so densely packed with highly effective and, in some cases, unintentionally dangerous actors.
One such event, the bad Crowdstrike update, crashed nearly 8 million computers, forcing the aviation industry, among others, to a grinding halt. Events like these highlight the need for proper risk management for third-party vendors. Vendors with access to information or hardware across an organization pose an inherent risk to that organization’s data privacy and security.
Other events revolve around hacker groups. Some act as activists, hacking organizations on behalf of a cause; some execute attacks for financial gain, and some are state-backed attackers whose main goal is to further the interests of the state funding their activities. No matter what the circumstances, attacks from hacker groups increased in 2024. This has led to increased data breaches, resulting in users’ data becoming compromised.
2024 saw massive events take place in the Privacy and Cybersecurity sectors. These events indicate the ever-increasing threats continue to become more advanced with each passing day. Organizations must be aware of these threats and look for ways to protect themselves today, but also take a forward-thinking approach and find ways to protect themselves in the future.
